Intrapersonal Intelligence

About Intrapersonal Intelligence

This type of intelligence is used for self-discovery and analysis. Your child will therefore be pretty inward looking, developing a good knowledge of his or her own strengths and abilities. This type of child tends to come across as fairly confident and unafraid of being different from the crowds. He or she may set personal goals - often achieving them too! The intrapersonal intelligent child is a private person and may also keep a journal or diary. They will be self-motivated and like to plan their time effectively.

Your child will enjoy
  • Peace and quiet
  • Day-dreaming
  • Time to reflect and reminisce
  • Setting and achieving goals
  • Own company
Here's how you can help your intrapersonal intelligent child learn best
  • Allow your child to take control of his or her own learning, organising when to do homework, read or to take a break.
  • Your child will thrive if allowed to set his or her own learning goals and targets. Help your child to identify targets based on what he or she is learning inside and outside of school.
  • Try to create learning around personal interests - if your child loves pottery how can this help him to understand science?
  • Allow your child the opportunity to choose something to learn outside of school, and to choose resources that will help to enhance his understanding of national curriculum subjects.
  • Can your child find a human angle in what he or she is learning? It could be a matter of simply trying to imagine what a character in history may have been thinking or feeling at a point in time.
  • Encourage your child to reflect on learning by writing or discussing what was experienced and any feelings this invoked.
  • Encourage your child to reflect on how new things learnt fit in with what they already know and have experienced.
