Foundation and Key Stage 1

Clifford Musical Memory Games

What better than this popular children's television character to prompt young children to develop a range of important skills through a series of fun and engaging activities? Bright and motivating with audio voiceovers and a comprehensive parent guide, the software will develop your child's memory, listening skills, ability to follow directions, early maths skills, and lots more. Children will not realise they're learning as they help Clifford bring music back to Birdwell Island after a storm destroys the radio tower. Your child can practise pattern recognition by arranging Clifford's dance steps in order, and in the memory game they are rewarded for getting the answer correct with a display of dolphin flips. Clifford promotes independent play and you can adapt activities to your child's ability. In total the CD includes 19 activities and challenges.

Clifford Learning Activities

A popular magazine is looking for a special community of dogs to feature in their next issue and who better than Clifford and pals T-bone and Cleo to fill that gap? The scenario sets the context for all of the learning activities on this resource, which helps children develop a range of key skills as they help Clifford complete various tasks around Birdwell Island. It could be helping Emily make some posters, using your maths skills to collect the ingredients for Mrs Carrington's pies, or helping Clifford clear up the big mess he makes when he accidentally knocks over a pile of junk. Working through such ‘dilemmas', your child will develop word recognition and understand sentence structure, learn about rhymes, counting, addition and subtraction, develop skills in logic and reasoning and recognition of colours and shapes. They will learn concepts such as cause and effect and tune their fine motor skills. At the end reward yourself by creating a scrapbook for the magazine showing your skill building adventures and enjoy a musical celebration at the pier. Special features include three adjustable levels, pintable Clifford posters, automatic help to allow for independent play and a comprehensive parent guide. The CD includes 10 learning activities.

Simple City

Take a trip round Simple City with your child to help stimulate his language, listening, collaboration, independence and creative play in Foundation stage and KS1. As you click on each different area in the city, you will get the opportunity to build cars and houses, cure your sick friends and pets, and even stop off at the café for a bite to eat at the end of the day. The city is made up of a garage, a building site, two surgeries - one for pets and one for their owners, a park, a zoo, a garden centre and a recycling station. Everywhere you go you are accompanied by an alphabet which allows your child to practice phonetics throughout. The programme allows the user to design various situations and environments within each location, adding some animation for extra visual effect, and a few films exploring the things your child has learnt and applying them to the real world. Although the films are still informative, they do not appear to have been put together as well as the rest of the programme. However, Simple city is on the whole a fun and very easy to use way for children to develop speaking and listening skills while also relating what they have learnt to the real world.

Finding Nemo

This is a charming accompaniment to the Disney/Pixar major motion picture, with all the main characters included along with a few clips from the film itself. The package includes two separate games - the first of which follows the movie storyline as you attempt to find Nemo with the help of Marlin and Dory. In the second game you must help Nemo become a super swimmer, by first completing each of the five puzzles before moving on to the ‘super swimmer challenge'. Guide Crush the turtle through strong currents, make sweet music with the Tank Gang and attempt to keep Bruce the shark happy at all times, otherwise he may eat you. Ideally suited for Early Learners, the puzzles are designed to cultivate exploration, cooperation, and problem solving skills.

Key Stage 2 and 3

Science Mania

Help a fat little professor through the science lab or a giant pinball out of a maze. This is Science Mania, and engaging learning and revision experience that will test your knowledge on scientific enquiry, life processes, physical processes, and materials and their properties. Answer the questions correctly and you'll conquer the obstacles to score needed points to help the professor, the pinball and a number of other wacky characters overcome their dilemmas. Children can play on their own, against siblings and friends on a network, and even against others around the world via the internet. The eye-catching puzzles - Feel the Force, Laser Lab, Mixture Magic, Living Pinball, Thingamajig and Short Circuit - have a range of difficulty levels to challenge knowledge. You must think quickly to solve problems using your knowledge of science. Other features on this lively CD include score tables, printable worksheets, a maze designer and a facility to add your own questions.

The Human Body

This multimedia encyclopedia will take you on a tour of self-discovery, explaining the function of every part and process of the human body. Information is provided every step of the way through narration, illustrations and animations - as you navigate from one organ to the next, through circulatory and reproductive systems, up the spine and down the large intestines. In addition to the navigation feature, there is an extensive lexicon which provides definitions of every biological term imaginable from abdominal wall reflex right through to zygomatic bone, as well as quizzes, games and puzzles to sharpen the mind while having fun with what you've learned. Although this is probably more useful to children at Key Stage 3 level, the younger ones can still have fun with the extra's and learn from the brightly coloured diagrams.

Clue Finders Adventures: Mystery of Martha & Mystery Mansion Arcade

Jungle animals keep disappearing from the Numerian Rain Forest. The natives say it has something to do with an ancient monster that has returned after thousands of years to find the two halves of the key to a secret city hidden in the forest. World-famous scientist Dr Horace Pythagoras thinks it's just a legend - but then he disappears, too. Enter the Clue Finders, called in to solve the mystery. Join Leslie, Santiago, Owen and Joni as they pitch their wit (essentially, their maths, logic, language, science and geography skills) to solve this baffling mystery. As you can imagine, in a rain forest where all sorts of surprises can pop up, this is no easy feat. In the Lost City you will need to know your antonyms from your synonyms, and your nouns from your verbs to build a bridge across the bottomless abyss. You will need problem solving skills, such as the ability to organise data, identify patterns and exercise logic, to escape the Goo Lagoon. The software combines animation with interactive technology to give you the experience of watching a movie whilst controlling its pace and direction. Special features include 30 interactive activities covering more than 75 different skills across four different levels, with detailed help and progress reports to show how you are getting on. This edition includes a bonus CD featuring the Mystery Mansion Arcade strategy games.

3D Globe

This is arguably the ultimate geography resource, allowing you to navigate around the globe at will, providing in depth analysis and detailed maps of every country. The multi-map function provides various views of the earth, including a political break down of country borders, a view of earth by night and a bio climatic map. The programme possesses an extensive profile on each country, detailing climate patterns, rates of tourism, education, economy and much more - it even notes what popular media exists in each country and what international aid that country is involved in. In addition, there is a themes section which discusses a large number of topics, many of which will be covered in the geography curriculum. Ideal for Key Stage 3, this is a resource that will be useful for many years after as you will always find something new to learn.
