Helen Blake's final verdict on the Wii Fit

The fourth week with Wii Fit as a new found family member has proved successful again. We are all still as enthusiastic as ever about switching it on.

Dad doesn’t get chance to have a go so ‘Daddy Mii’ is always sleeping in the Wii Fit Plaza which causes great amusement to my daughters.

I am so pleased with the Wii Fit and manage to get a few exercises in here and there during the day if I don’t get an hour at a time. It all gets logged in as FitCash, and I can add in my walking and swimming onto my activity log. By the end of the day I have accumulated a respectable amount of time – I aim for at least 30-45 mins each day.

Even after four weeks, there are still plenty of exercises that I haven’t tried. There are new yoga moves and muscle workouts to try - although that’s probably because I spend most of my Wii Fit time doing balance games and aerobic workouts. Boxing, step and jogging are my favourites for aerobic, along with table tilt, balance bubble and tightrope walking for the balance games. I’ve still not reached the end of the river, but its not for want of trying! I’m so close, but the cliff edge just keeps bursting my bubble! The frustration just makes me want to try harder which of course is fab for adding to my FitCash!!

The options are endless when you have some WiiFit time (which of course is hard to refuse!), and I just wish I’d discovered it earlier.

As for results, over the four weeks I have lost around 5 lbs, not quite reaching my goal although I did set it a tad too high. But overall  I’m really pleased with that. I feel better for it, knowing that I can be at home doing exercise without feeling guilty about not going to the gym. Also I’m really pleased with the impact on my daughters. They are trying new exercises, sometimes without even realising, and having fun at the same time!

My girls have already started sifting through certain high street catalogues checking out which games and accessories they would particularly like to add to our Wii collection. Extra controllers, dance mats and steering wheels along with the pink remote covers and associated games. Let’s hope Santa and his helpers find time to look through the books too!

Julliette Atkinson's final verdict of the Wii Fit

We have been on the Wii Fit each night for at least one and a half hours if not longer. We really enjoy using the Wii Fit as a family activity; and both myself and my son are enjoying getting more exercise from using the Wii Fit than we would if we had to rely on other exercise techniques - so much more because of the weather too.

The exercises that you can to do are superb, and as you progress you have even more that you can unlock depending on the time spent on the Wii Fit.

I have found the Wii Fit brilliant as it fits in around my daily routine, and my energy and stamina levels have improved and increased. I am currently using the jogging exercise as part of my training for the 10K Sponsored Midnight Wander in aid of my local Hospice.

Having the Wii Fit has given me the incentive I needed to make my lifestyle healthier and to lose weight. I know that I will continue to use the Wii Fit as a way of exercising as it is easily becomes a regular part of daily routine and it is something you can use as a whole family.

We have even invited friends round and had a Wii Fit party, where we have shown them how easy it is to use the Wii Fit and the variety of the exercises that are available!

Sara's final thoughts

As a family, we’ve been using Wii Fit for about a month now and I’m pretty proud of our progress. Even if some of it's just having more fun with the games.

By turning exercise into a game, Wii Fit has somehow turned me (a person who has a. never set foot in a gym and b. would rather walk on broken glass than wear a pair of running shoes) into somewhat of a fitness freak. I guess at heart I am a bit of a nerd, my boyfriend too, so combining something that’s good for us with our love of gaming has just been fantastic.

Doing 20 minutes or so most days now is such a significant difference from a month ago, when I wasn’t getting exercise at all. Now, I still might skip a day, but the difference is that I feel bad about it, and make myself hula-hoop or do some step-aerobics exercise for a little bit longer the next day.

I wasn’t too focused on losing weight and it’s fluctuated a bit since I started a month ago, but I’m down a few pounds. Bonus!

I still find it hilarious that Poppy, my daughter (23 months) tries to copy me exercising as I do it. She is so sweet, jogging around the room, even mimicking me when I get out of breath! I think it says something, though, that a month ago I ran up the stairs at work and was out of breath, but the other day I was late for nursery and had to run a mile up the road – and it didn’t effect me one bit!
