Finalist No.1: Luke Reilly, age 8

"My dad takes me to football practise twice a week, as well as all Sunday morning to my sunday leage football matches.  He also takes my sister to swimming and guides, my older brother to cubs and all of us to cross country twice a week.  He does this so we don't get to hang about the streets where we live.  We also do guitar lessons.  And when we are at school dad works too as well as taking care of my baby brother and sister and he's a much better cook than mum is.  He gets my football stuff all ready for me the night before i have to play.  Everyday we have something on and its about 3 miles away everything we go to."

Finalist No.2: Kathryn Beresford, age 8

"My dad is fantastic, my mum has been training to be a Midwife for the last 4 years so he has looked after me loads.  He takes and picks me up from school, he came to my sports day and cheered me on.  He often has to get me and my sister out of the house so that Mummy could do her studies!  At christmas we had a surprise present from father christmas which was a Nintendo Wii and exactly what I wanted.  (I know he bought it but have not told him)

My sister was born last year so now he has to look after her aswell.  It must be really hard work looking after the two of us and all this time he has to go to work aswell.
This would be the perfect way for me, my sister and my mum to say thank you for everything he has now that mum is qualified and starts work soon."

Finalist No.3: Ellie Lock, age 11

"My Dad is simply the best Dad I could ask for. He works really, really hard to make my life as lovely as he can. Some days he works for 16 hours nonstop but he still has time for a cuddle and a story and he never complains he is tired.

He makes up the most briliant stories about my favourite cuddly toy - a pink velvet pig called Harrison. Harrison has adventures all around the New Forest ( where I live), with his piggy friend  - Percy -they  always gets into awful scrapes.(A bit like me really !!)

My Dad is always there for me when I need  him and he is a fab listener to any problems, worries or joys that I have.

In September I am starting secondary school - which I am really nervous about. Dad has spent hours talking it all through with me and now I feel so much more confident.

As I am an only child , I have friends round to play alot. They all think my Dad is a bit crazy - hes always trying to make us laugh (And his jokes are terrible!)

Basically, my Dad is ace and I love him and my Mum more than anything. I think I am really lucky ."

Finalist No.4: Erika Vaughn, age 7

"My dad is simply the best. Although he doesn't live with me and my mum, he sees me every evening after school. He plays lots of out door games with me and draws the most amazing pictures. My mum and dad are good friends and in the last five years has read me a story at bed time every evening even though he works very hard and I know he is often tired.

My dad is the best chef there is and often makes me and mummy scrummy food, lots of times it's food I've never tried before, but always encourages me to try it.

My dad has marks on the kitchen door frame to show how tall I've grown in the past five years. My dad loves smurfs and calls me his baby smurf which I find funny. My dad shows me how to play safely on the computer. My dad is great with general knowledge and helps me with my quiz homework. Considering my mum and dad are not together, they really try hard to make life fun and interesting for me and my dad loves me to bits. He says I'm his best little smurffette in the whole world.  He makes me feel so special. I think my dad should win this competition because of all the hard work and effort he has made to make my life so nice and special despite not living with me and mummy. Thank you daddy I will always love you! Erika"

Finalist No.5: Emma Torok - age 10

"We think our Daddy should win Father of the year because he is the best! He is constantly supportive and never gives up on us! He is and always has been there for us! He is never late back from work, meaning he is in time to sit with the family round the dinner table. We know that, even though he never shows it, he is stressed out about work and a holiday would be just right to help him relax, as he never sits still. He never nags about homework or schoolwork, but to say he nevers nags about anything would be a lie. Any parent who doesn't nag obviously doesn't care about you enough, my Dad only nags to kepp us three safe and thets why we love him. He is always energetic and loves to run around in the garden or at the beach with us and we never get bored. Because of our Dad, Emma (13) is not a stroppy teenager and loves to join in with family outings and things, because our dad is always there to keep us going. We think our Daddy should win father of the year award because he is the best!"

Finalist No.6: Alexandra Emery, age 7

"My dad is the best daddy in the world. Last year, the doctors told me I had a lump in my brain and I am very poorly and the doctors can't make me better. But my daddy plays monopoly and snakes and ladders with me and makes jokes to cheer me up. He looks after me really well and helps me keep my chin up. He is very kind and loves me very much and calls me his princess. I love my daddy up to the sky."

Finalist No.7: Ben Marchant, age 11

"I am autistic and have neurological problems and my dad has been my rock. He also looks after my sister who has multiple scelorosis. My mum has severe epilepsy and without him i don't know where we would be. He never has time for himself and always puts us first. He always encourages me and helps me with homework and everything I do. I think my dad should win father of the year as he is the most caring and happy person I know. I want to give him something back for all the love and support he has shown me over the years. I love my dad and he deserves to win." Ben Marchant

Finalist No.8: Liam Tares, age 4 1/2

"My daddy is the best because he plays football with me & builds my lego with me & looks after me. I live with my mummy sometimes & my daddy sometimes because they don't live together anymore, but they are friends now instead. My daddy likes to dress up like Superman! We have Scotland football strips & kilts that are the same so we can wear them & be the same as each other. My daddy & my uncle Coco & my uncle Alan like to play football in the park. I have a goal that stays in the shed but we all take it to the park behind my granny's house so we can play football. I always win. My daddy likes to watch wrestling on the telly & sometimes he lets me watch too. I always put him in a head lock & make him tap out! My daddy doesn't like it when I wake up early in the morning & go into his bedroom to wake him up. He says I'm up too early, but then he gets up & makes my porridge & lets me watch Cbeebies. Mummy says I shouldn't watch telly when I have my breakfast, but daddy says its ok if its a secret. Sometimes daddy has to go to work in his shoe shop & granny or Auntie Heather looks after me but when he comes home he reads me a story before I go to bed. He says he knows Dr Seuss off by heart now! I love my daddy because he's always fun."

Finalist No.9: Sam Bowden, age 8

"My Dad lost his job in March
It could have been a bummer
But he's been spending loads more time with me
It's going to be a great summer!

He takes me to football, cricket and golf
We go out riding on our bikes
We'll often stop for a cool ice cream
It's Mr Whippy that he likes!

So now I think its his turn
To have a bit of fun
Please let me take him to Florida
And ride the 'coasters in the sun!"

Finalist No.10: Samantha Murray, age 5

"My dad has always been there for me while i get the chemotherapy, every week , and always takes me to Mcdonalds after i have it on friday.

He stays with me in hospital, makes lots of things out of paper we even have parties in my room in hospital, he makes me laugh all the time, and has given up work to look after me, while im getting my treatment. Please pick him, he is my hero!"
