How Do you Teach your child to Like Fruit and Vegetables?

Adults as well as children are not eating their fruit and veggies, says government research. Despite evidence that 400 grams of fruit and vegetables consumed daily can help protect us against certain cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure it seems we are just not following the advice. Our stubbornness is in fact causing 42,200 premature deaths a year and costing the NHS £6 billion annually to treat diseases linked to poor diet.

 

Most of us are aware of the health benefits of incorporating fresh fruit and vegetables into our daily diets, but why, with this in mind, are we still not eating them? And why do many children seem so unwilling to eat and enjoy the fruit and veg they are offered?

Numbers of Childminders in Decline

New figures from Ofsted have shown there is a decline in the number of registered child minders in England as they face increasing regulation. The figures show there were 8,400 fewer registered childminders in June this year than at a peak in June 2004.


 

Money for Youth Projects

Children's minister Beverley Hughes has announced a £4.5M cash injection to enable positive activity projects for young people. The projects are aimed at helping young people from different backgrounds to develop appreciation for each other.
