Each year as we approach September and the new school year, we begin to think about the new school term. For children this means moving to a new class and a new teacher - which might cause apprehension, excitement, dread or a mixture of all three.
These feelings will be fuelled by what children already think they know about the teacher - from seeing them on playground duty or in assemblies; from what they've observed in the cloakroom or corridor; and from what they've heard other children including older siblings, say about them (why is it that older siblings almost always remember the worst aspects of a teacher?).
As a parent, you will also have formed your opinions, and children often pick up on these. But you will want to help your child settle in so that they have a successful year.
